Do you Vonage? Can you recommend it?

March 17th, 2007 at 07:54 pm

arggghhhhh!!!!

After yet another rate hike from Verizon, I think it's time to jump ship. For those of you using Vonage, can you recommend it? What internet carrier are you using? How's the quality and the overall cost?

Thanks for any advise folks!

I'm not a customer, but you might be interested to hear that Vonage just lost a patent lawsuit. This article suggests it could face a takeover by Verizon in the future:

My sister in Washington State used Vonage and we talk long distance all the time. It seems to be doing fine for her. I honestly don't know what they use for internet, I thought it was the same.

Annie - I don't use Vonage, but I use Lingo. Also VOiP, and a little bit less expensive for a comparable plan. I just found that they have a special offer: $17.95 for their unlimited local/long distance and to 21 countries for the first 6 months - normal price is $21.95. I also would get a $25 referral credit as well as the person I refer if they keep their service for 3 months. wink, wink...

I've been a customer for almost 2 years and I like it. Let me know if you're interested!

Lau, do you have trouble with Lingo? We've had a horrible time with it but recently it's better.

Denis - I had a problem a while ago. If I was on the internet and the phone at the same time, the call would drop. I spent a little while on the phone with their tech support. They made me go into the box settings through my computer, which is a little tricky if you're not familiar with that type of things. After that: no more problem.

What kind of trouble did you have?
